2018 Full Elections!

Posted in Announcements on Apr 22, 2018

It's the time of year where we have our AGM again, and that means it's time for our elections!

This year we have done away with holding onto roles, and that means every position is up for grabs, those being:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Business Officer
  • Systems Officer (Two Positions)
  • Education Officer
  • Communications Officer
  • Visual Media Officer
  • Welfare Officer

A detailed description of what each role entails is available in The Society Constitution but each one of them are critical in the smooth running of LUCSS, and we need all hands on deck!

To nominate yourself for a position, you can put your details down here, and feel free to fill that form in multiple times if you want to run for multiple positions - just remember, you can only be elected to one position at a time and elections will take place in the above order so make sure you keep that in mind.

Some extra details, I (Brent) will be the Returning Officer for these elections, and any queries about the running of the elections should be given to me by email. Nominations will close on Thursday 10th May 2018 at 6PM just before the last meetup before the AGM on the 13th. The elections themselves will run during the AGM that weekend though the details are still in the works, but each candidate will have 2 Minutes to hust, and after that all candidates will field questions from those in attendance.

Then after all candidates have rounded up for a particular role, a simple vote will take place, and an option for members not in attendance will be made available on the day - likely via an email through UnionCloud (So make sure you sign up via the LUSU Website!, and based on that outcome the candidate with the most votes will be duly elected, and in the event of a tie, the Returning Officer will cast their vote to break the tie.

Please note that any member has the right to request a secret ballot either for one role or the whole election, and this will require a majority to pass - it's also worth noting we have to be quorate for the elections to be valid, so make sure you get as many people to come as possible!

So get your nominations in ASAP, and I hope to see everyone there!
